By Gloria Re Calegari – Cefriel

The paper “The Survey Ontology: Packaging Survey Research as Research Objects” has been accepted at the DaMaLOS 2021 workshop, an event co-located with ISWC 2021. The paper describes the Survey Ontology designed to empower the CONEY toolkit for conversational survey.

The Survey Ontology has been designed by Cefriel who aimed at building a solution to semantically annotate questions and answers at design time, and to easily elaborate and inter-link the collected data at analysis time. The survey ontology embraces the research object principles, and defines an open vocabulary to represent, annotate, and share a representation of the questionnaire structure and the gathered responses of a survey.

The paper also describes a complete survey research study carried out with CONEY and openly published as a research object on Zenodo under the ACTION community (https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.5140351). The goal of the study was to analyse the motivation to participate, of a specific citizen science community, in the effort of fighting light pollution and involved the network of around 120 hosts of the TESS photometers (https://tess.stars4all.eu/).

The ISWC conference will be held online from 24 to 28 October 2021 and the paper will be presented during the DaMaLOS workshop on 24th October, 13:00-17:00 CEST.
