The banded demoiselle is emerging in large parts of Europe this time of the year. This beautiful damselfly has increased in distribution thanks to the improved water quality in running waters. This is to a large extend the result of EU regulations on water quality that resulted in cleaner water where this species can live. Thanks to large numbers of citizen scientists we know where this species occurs and how it is doing. That is not only true for this species but nearly all knowledge on distribution and trends of insects and other organisms is collected by volunteers.
