By Gloria Re Calegari – Cefriel

Cefriel’s team submitted a paper about Coney to the ISWC 2020 Conference (International Semantic Web Conference), a virtual conference that will take place from 2nd to 6th November 2020.

Coney is a conversational survey tool for designing, developing and administering conversational survey for data collection in citizen science and it is part of the the ACTION toolkit.

The paper presents both the tool and its usage in studying citizen science communities. In particular, the paper describes the study of motivation of citizen scientists participating to the TESS Network initiative, a citizen science community focused on fighting light pollution.

This campaign aims to collect sky brightness measurements by asking people to host and install photometers in their home. Data has been collected by hundreds of photometers installed by citizen scientists spread all around the world.
