Calling all insect experts, insect enthusiasts and light pollution patrollers!

ACTION project Tatort Streetlight is seeking citizen scientists to join in their exciting project looking at the effect of streetlight design on flying insect populations.

Whether you are an expert in beetles, or want to search for stars in the urban night sky, Tatort Streetlight has multiple ways to participate. The project, spread around four different locations in Germany, is looking for hands-on participation in emptying insect traps used to monitor insect incidence in the study areas. They are looking for experts in insect identification to help determine individual insect orders down to species level, and for those without that experience yet, Tatort Streetlight are also running workshops where you can learn to identify the insects caught in the traps. They are also asking citizen scientists to help measure how bright the night sky is in the area by using the Loss of the Night app.

There’ll be a kick-off event on the 30th October on the shores of the beautiful Lake Stechlin at the Stechlinsee-Center in Neuglobsow.
