Cefriel, ICT Center of Excellence for Research, Innovation, Education and industrial Labs partnerships, is a unique center where academic expertise and industry know-how meet and integrate. Cefriel was founded as a not-for-profit organization in Milan in 1988. The primary objective of the center is to strengthen existing ties between the academic and business worlds in the innovative ICT sector at national and international levels. Cefriel pursues this objective through leading research activities, development projects of innovative products and services, post-graduate master programs, and advanced educational programs to companies and professionals.

Research is a vital component of the centre. Strict integration between research and its field applications is maintained and insisted upon at all times. To ensure the effective exploitation of results, each research lab is composed of Cefriel professionals along with researchers from the industrial and academic bodies.

Innovation. Cefriel supports companies in all development phases, from definition to  realisation of highly innovative ICT solutions. The centre undertakes feasibility studies, assesses new technologies, designs pioneering architectures, and develops innovative prototypes. Activities are carried out within instrumental labs equipped with state-of-the-art tools.
In this proactive environment, innovative concepts and ideas can rapidly lead to prototypes, new models, improved software and hardware architectures and fresh solutions for customers from both public and private sectors.

Education. Cefriel offers master courses to post-graduate students as well as educational programs to professionals for the development of their knowledge on emerging ICT technologies as well as their competences on managing complex ICT innovation projects. Applied research is an essential component of Cefriel training model.

Cefriel participates in ACTION with the Knowledge Technologies group, bringing its expertise on Human Computation and Semantic Web.
