Norwegian Institute for Air Research

Norwegian Institute for Air Research (NILU) is an independent, non-profit research foundation established in 1969. NILU has a leading role in environmental research in Europe and in the development of state-of-the-art environmental information systems on air pollution, on the effects of pollution on ecosystems, human health and materials. NILU is the national reference laboratory for air quality and is also involved in the development of a CEN standard for microsensor units, under the lead of JRC in Ispra.
Over the last years, NILU has been involved in both nationally and internationally funded transdisciplinary research projects with a focus on user engagement and citizen science in relation to air pollution (e.g., http://co.citi-sense.eu (coordinator); http://citi-sense-mob.eu/ ; www.hackair.eu; www.claircity.eu; http://iresponse-rri.com/).
NILU is also member of the European Citizen Science Association (ECSA) and chair of the ECSA Air Quality Working Group.
